ADVENTURE TIME SEASON FINALE REVIEW - THE LICH

Synopsis:

Well folks, here I am with my first ever TV review! Today I will be reviewing the epic season finale of Adventure Time that aired Monday night. This was certainly a crazy episode. The episode opens with Finn, Jake, The Lich, Billy, The Old Lady, The Snail, The Bear, and The Cosmic Owl on a computer. The characters are dancing around and then suddenly, The Snail kills Billy. Finn then wakes up and tells Jake. Jake then informs Finn that it could be a premonition dream and that they should go see Billy Immediately.

Synopsis continued :

Finn and Jake arrive at Billy's crack where he asks them why they're there. Finn says that he wanted to make sure Billy wasn't dead. Finn explains his dream and Billy asks them if they're ready to save all life from The Lich.

They head out and Billy explains that they need to collect all the power crystals from all the princess's and Ice King's crowns.

After collecting all but one crystal, the trio decides to take a break. Jake tries to find snacks in Billy's bag and accidentally pulls out The Enchiridion. Billy says that he found it in the mouth of a bear. Finn then blushes and remembers that he was the one who gave it to the bear in the first place. Billy then explains to them that The Enchiridion possesses magical powers. He tells them to turn the sword on the cover.

When the sword is turned, the circle in the center of the book opens, revealing slots for the magical gems. Nothing happens so Billy then shines the gem on his head to the center. A hologram then appears and a man resembling the Key-per from the episode, "The Enchiridion". He says his name is Book-o. He then goes on to explain that tons of separate universes exist, and that there is a Time Room in the center of the universe. Billy states that this is where he is going to put The Lich.

After that, Finn and Jake realize that they still need one power gem. Princess Bubblegum's. Princess Bubblegum is in her lab experimenting with little candy people. Finn and Jake burst through her ceiling and ask her for her gem. She says no and Finn tries to take it from her. She then slices Finn's cheek with a pair of scissors.

She then claims that it was an accident. Finn then grabs the gem from her crown and storms out with Jake.

Outside, Billy is standing behind some trees and is motioning for Finn to get him the gem. Princess Bubblegum then runs out and yells, "Finn! That's not Billy, It's The Lich!" A gumball guardian then stands up shouting, "LICH ALERT! LICH ALERT!". The Gumball guardian then fires a laser in Billy's face blasting it half of it off. Half of Billy's face is gone, revealing that underneath, it has been The Lich all along.

Finn then realizes that The Lich "messed Billy up". Meaning that The Lich possessed him. The Lich then smiles and asks Finn for the book, attempting to grab it.

A.K.A One of the most terrifyingly bad-ass scenes in history.

Finn moves the book away and then starts smashing it with his knee. The book then starts to break.

After that, a portal opens, leading into the different universes. The Lich then turns and says, "Thanks Finn,".

Bubblegum then yells telling Jake, who's standing right in front of The Lich, to stop him. Jake grabs onto The Lich as he enters the portal. Jake is being dragged and then Finn helps him as they're dragged through the dirt.

After that the screen goes white and a scene opens. There is a barn and a farmhouse. We then see a realistic looking Finn and Jake sitting on a log. Jake is looking and acting like a normal dog while Finn plays his bandaged up flute. A woman with a pink shirt on, that appears to be Finn's mother is partially seen and tells Finn to "come here" and that it is something important. Finn then looks at Jake and says, "Wow she seems pretty steamed, I guess I done donked up yet again."

Review:

All I can say is WOW, this episode was definitely one of, if not, the greatest episode of Adventure Time. It had the perfect combination of action, drama, and comedy. One of my main reasons for liking this episode was that it incorporated comedy so well in such a dramatic episode. Like in the following scenes:

In the montage of them collecting the gems they take LSP's gem and it's unusually large and grosses Finn and Jake out, their reactions were hilarious. Then when they put the gems in the book LSP's just bounces right off and no one cares.

Then again in the montage, when Jake is collecting the gems in the pouch, there's one scene where Finn throws a gem into the pouch and Jake is striking a hilarious pose.

There's another comedic part, when Finn and Jake take The Ice King's gems, Finn takes them and then he draws on him. It says "I suck hamburgers." and Finn drew eyes on him

This episode also incorporated so many different dramatic effects. Like when Billy got his face blown off. What did The Lich do with Billy? Is he dead? What about Billy's lady, The Bear, Or most importantly, The Snail? From what I assume, The Snail is dead, Billy's lady is dead, and Billy, even if he wasn't dead to begin with, he got his face blown off. As for the bear, I have no idea, maybe The Lich killed him too.

Another thing, Finn's reaction to Bubblegum was really odd, he seems to be getting more angry with her when she tries to interfere with his activities lately. Like when he thought that she was jealous of him and Flame Princess. At first, I thought that it should have been longer, but I think they wrapped things up quite well. I have no idea what they're going to do with the ending.

I think that Adventure Time foreshadows a lot of themes and ideas, like in King Worm when Finn looks in the mirror, he sees the form that he's in at the end. The Lich can also never touch the gems because they basically repel him, and the fact that Billy never touches them is a bit of foreshadowing. Also, in Finn's dream, for a split second, when Billy is sitting down, he turns into The Lich for a split second.

One last thing about this episode. For a moment, I thought that it was going to turn out Billy was just trying to loot all the gems and sell them or something. I actually never guessed that Billy was possessed. I just hope that they explain ALL of this. Was Finn's dream what really happened? Again, what happened to The Lich's "team"?

So in conclusion, this episode combined comedy and drama in great ways. This was one of the most epic season finales I have ever seen. Adventure Time has done it again. I give this episode a 10/10. Check back here in November when Adventure Time comes back on the air. Also check back here Friday for a Regular Show review! I hope you enjoyed my first review.
